Intensive interdisciplinary survey of social, political, and economic developments in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania since 1991. Offered: jointly with JSIS A 455.

Class description

This interdisciplinary course gives an intensive introduction to social, political and economic issues in the Baltic since 1991, with emphasis on the situation after the Baltic countries joined the EU and NATO in 2004.

Class assignments and grading

Reading assignments and class discussions will include critical analysis of primary and secondary source materials. Students will write a research paper related to current issues in the Baltic.

Grades will be based on the following: Class participation and responses to readings: 40% Final Examination: 10% Research Paper (proposal, bibliography, outline, draft, final) 50%
