Class description
Navigating the MPA Job Search
Goal: This course will provide Evans School students the tools to go about the job search successfully through career development, skill building, and the practice of applying those tools. Topics covered include: Job search strategy and networking, resume/cover letter writing, interviewing strategies, salary/benefit negotiation, and using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to aid in the job search.
Student learning goals
General method of instruction
This workshop will provide the tools for participants to develop practical job search skills. Each two-hour session will include group exercises, and the homework will include practical assignments based on the student’s own job search.
All participants will be expected to invest some time outside of the course to conduct a informational interview, time spent on a 2-page career action plan, and writing a resume and cover letter based on a real position.
