Description. This seminar will survey the theoretical literature on problems of rebellion and revolutionary change in history.

Assignments. Students will be required to write short essays on the readings and one longer term paper.
Recommended preparation
Texts. Readings will include selections from Arendt, On Revolution; Skocpol, States and Social Revolutions; Goldstone, Revolution and Rebellion in the Early Modern World; Goldstone, Gurr, and Moshiri, eds., Revolutions of the Late Twentieth Century; Taylor, ed., Rationality and Revolution; and others.
