Class description
Title: Regional Integration in Western Europe Description: The focus of this course will be on regional integration in Western Europe and the challenges (internal and external) posed by this process. An effort will be made to understand the contemporary European Union within a historical context. Major theoretical perspectives, such as functionalism and realism, will be applied to the case material to see how well each explanation works. Important developments in Europe, such as the Single Act, the Maastricht Treaty, monetary unification will be examined in detail. Relations between the EU and other countries (e.g. the US) will be examined.
