Seminar on Current Problems in Physics

Supervised, independent study of topics (chosen by faculty in charge) of current interest in physics. Written and oral presentation summarizing work accomplished are required. Recommended: 12 credits in physics above 200 level. Offered: Sp.

Class description

How to do synthesize knowledge from different classes and apply it to a physics topic of interest to them; how to do literature research; how to write a scientific paper; how to give a scientific presentation.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

Students choose topic after consultation with instructor and, working either individually or in pairs, write a paper and give a presentation on that topic. Paper will be reviewed by instructor and returned for revision.

Class assignments and grading

Attendance and participation, quality of paper and of presentation.
