Introduction to Philosophy

Major philosophical questions relating to such matters as the existence of God, the foundations of knowledge, the nature of reality, and the nature of morality. Approach may be either historical or topical. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

A careful study of some very influential philosophical works, both historical and contemporary, and of the debates that have sprung from them. These latter may include difficult debates about the nature of knowledge, our knowledge of the world, the relation between mind and body, the nature of desires and emotions, what we have reason to do, and how we should evaluate ourselves.
