From Big Bang to the Blue Planet

Explores the origin and evolution of the Earth, ocean, atmosphere, and life, with an emphasis on climate as the integrator of changes in the biosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and lithosphere. Prerequisite: either CHEM 120 or CHEM 142; either PHYS 114 or PHYS 121; either BIOL 161, or BIOL 180.

Class description

The origin of the universe, our solar system, planet Earth, the atmosphere and oceans, and life. A recurring theme in the latter half of the class will be climate as the integrator of changes in the biosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and lithosphere.
