Jazz Pedagogy

Stylistic and esthetic developments in the performance of jazz. Key musical ingredients in the evolution of jazz as an art form and the skills commensurate with teaching these. Designed for music majors.

Class description

Jazz Pedagogy presents techniques for learning to play by ear and improvise. The course will introduce the basic rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic elements of jazz, and students will learn techniques for teaching creative music and running a jazz ensemble.

10 Weekly Assignments - 10 points each Class Participation - 30 points Reflection Paper - 30 points Culminating Project - 40 points
