The Orchestra

Development of the orchestra and its literature.

Class description

This class will cover significant pieces of symphonic literature from c. 1700-c. 1960, including works by Beethoven, Berlioz, and Stravinsky.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

Lecture, class discussion, listening assignments, quizzes, and final exam, with opportunity for extra credit concert attendance.
