MUSIC 120
Seattle Campus
Studies in listening, with emphasis on the changing components of Western art music. Illustrated lectures, laboratory section meetings, and presentations by guest artists.
Class description
People instinctively know whether or not they like a piece of music, but few can single out the precise elements that attract or annoy them. The goal of MUSIC 120 is to introduce students to classical masterworks from the Medieval to Modern eras, but students also learn to use appropriate musical terminology and formulate concepts that can be applied to music of all eras and genres. The course is designed for persons with little to no musical experience, and there is no expectation that a student can read and understand musical notation.
