Special Topics in Music History

Topics vary each quarter. Prerequisite: 2.0 in MUHST 210; 2.0 in MUSIC 303; 2.0 in MUSIC 306.

Class description

"Mozart and His World." A survey of the life and works of Mozart, drawing upon the genres of opera, symphony, church music, concerto, and string chamber music. We will explore exciting new directions in late eighteenth-century studies, including topic theory, galant schemata, new theories of classical form, and critiques of the notion of a "Classical."
