Special Topics in Materials Science

Studies of special advanced topics in materials science. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

The course will be flexible and tailored to the students enrolled. Broadly, it will cover - magnetic domains, domain imaging, micromagnetic modeling - small particles, soft and hard magnets - thin film heterostructures, proximity and interface effects - magnetic recording, biomedical applications, magnetic actuation in MEMS and spinelectronics

General method of instruction

Lectures and in class discussions of specific readings ( published technical literature)

Recommended preparation

MSE 550 (MSE599L) or consent of instructor

Class assignments and grading

I TERM Paper (15-20 pages) and one oral presentation (30-45 mins)

   Term paper ~ 50% Oral Presnetation ~ 40% Class particpation ~ 10%
