Class description
A thorough understanding of the political, social, and legal environment around today's corporations. Critical managerial issues from theoretical (e.g. capitalist versus socialist), and ethical values perspectives; and their impact on a firm's functioning in various countries. Corporate political power, boards of directors, capitalism, industrial policy, business ethics and social responsibility, alternative corporate roles in society. Offered: AWSp.
Student learning goals
General method of instruction
A mix of lectures, case studies, group discussions, presentations by the instructor and students, videos, and research project(s). I do expect high degree of class participation
Recommended preparation
Awareness of the corporate business, social, and political environment. Some thoughts (based on literature) about how to handle ethical dilemmas when you are a manager. This means looking at the big picture of all the pressures that the corporate system will place on you, and also looking inside of your own thought processes.
Class assignments and grading
Group Projects and Position Papers, and Case Study Presentations.
Strictly on the curve as defined by the University--recommended mean is 3.2 for this course.
