Managing for Organizational Effectiveness

Organizational behavior and organization theory concepts show how managers can improve organizational effectiveness by attending to the human side of the enterprise. Topics such as leadership, motivation, power and politics, and organization design are examined for their effects on performance. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management. We will examine relevant issues at the individual, group, and organizational level. The tools and knowledge you will gain in this course are extensive and should be useful to you wherever your personal or career path takes you. You should finish this class with ¨Knowledge of current theory in the field of organizational behavior ¨An understanding of how to practically apply this theory in a business setting ¨An idea about the role you would like to play in an organization ¨Greater teamwork, persuasion, delegation, decision making, and communication skills

General method of instruction

The course will include discussions, lectures, and in-class individual and group projects.

Recommended preparation

Students should come to each class on time prepared with questions and insights regarding the required reading.

Class assignments and grading

Assignments will include quizzes(6), exams (3) and a group project.
