This course provides an introduction to the modeling and design of metamaterials and phononic crystals. The basic principles of linear and nonlinear wave propagation in continuum, periodic, and locally resonant media will be discussed, with an emphasis on acoustic and elastic wave propagation. Topics will include recent advances in metamaterial research, numerical analysis methods, and transformation acoustics techniques.
