Kinematics and Linkage Design

Synthesis of linkage-type mechanisms using graphical and computer methods.

Class description

To introduce mechanical engineering students to the concepts of kinematics, kinematic analysis (including position, velocity and acceleration), and linkage design (for two and three position motion, path and function generation). This is to include graphical (possibly via CAD), complex algebra and computer techniques.

General method of instruction

Small group lecture style on blackboard.

Recommended preparation

One could review vector statics and complex algebra.

Class assignments and grading

One should expect weekly homework and some computer assignments.

Class is curved.
