Biomedical Health Informatics Research Colloquium

Provides forum for extensive interactive research discussions. Format is round table with short presentations and long facilitated discussion amongst students and core BHI faculty. Both students and faculty present. Topics primarily research focused (ongoing and proposed research.), but also journal articles, current topics of debate, and other. Credit/no-credit only. Offered: AWSp.

Class description

An informal seminar design will facilitate interactive discussion of practical research issues including: protecting vulnerable participants, strategizing to meet stake-holder priorities, managing clinical information and complex data sets, and identifying potential collaborators. Guest speakers from critical, acute, and ambulatory research settings are invited to share experiences designing and conducting research in the clinical arena; participants will be asked to offer insights regarding information management, data integration, and informatics challenges or opportunities.

Student learning goals

1. Enhance inter-professional dialogue about research and informatics issues common to clinical studies.

2. Identify strategies for initiating relationships with potential collaborators.

3.Explore aspects of clinical research across varied settings.
