Phonology I

Speech sounds, mechanism of their production, and structuring of sounds in languages; generative view of phonology; autosegmental and metrical phonology. Prerequisite: LING 450.

Class description

Winter - 2001 Generative view of phonology. Typical phonological processes; formalizing rules; syllables; tone; (autosegmental phenomena). (Note: students who took Ling 451 prior to 1999 have covered approximately the content of the current L450 and should take L451. See instructor for registration details.)
