Class description
(To become ITAL 352- Italian Cultural History, SPR 2004) Through readings from selected bibliography, primary sources, historical documents, literature, etc. this course aims at providing the students with a general and clear overview and understanding of Italian history and culture from the XIII to the XX century. From the Age of Dante, Giotto and Petrarca and the zenith of the Renaissance to the Risorgimento and the political unification of Italy as a modern State, there will be a systematic description and analysis of the historical context and significance of the most relevant Italian cultural achievements. The course can also be a basis for further studies in Italian Literature, Art, Music and Philosophy.
