American History: Writings and Interpretations, 1770-1870

Class description

Co-taught by Moon-Ho Jung. Second in a 3 quarter sequence (501, 521, 522) designed to acquaint entering graduate students with the principal writings of American history since 1620. A second purpose of this course is either to prepare students for the MA qualifying exam in American history or to begin study for a field in 19th century US history.

For History graduate students: graduate students from other departments may enroll with consent of instructors.

Class assignments and grading

Discussion of common reading, oral reports on student-selected books, 6 (5-7 page) book reviews.
