Analysis of economic problems, political and social changes, and intellectual trends in major Latin American republics since the late nineteenth century.
Class Description
A general overview of twentieth-century Latin American History, emphasizing economic developments, social and political change, and intellectual and cultural trends.
Recommended preparation
Introductory courses in Latin American History (HSTAA 181 or 185) and/or in European or U.S. History.
Class Assignments and Grading
Lecture and discussion. Students will read five books and write a book and a film review.
