Special Topics in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences

One-time offerings of topics in fisheries by resident or visiting faculty.

Class description

The purpose of this course is to provide students with a familiarity of the major concepts and rationale for modeling in the ecological sciences. This class is intended for students that do not have extensive training in quantitative methods but wish to gain some familiarity with those approaches. Course content will therefore emphasize the interpretation and evaluation of ecological models, as well as the design of simple yet useful models for decision analysis.

Course work will consist of in class exercises and two group assignments that involve the construction, analysis, and interpretation of ecological models.

Recommended preparation

(1) College level calculus (2) Introductory Statistics (3) At least one college level course in Ecology.
