Special Topics in Finance

Study and research on topics of current concern to faculty and students. Only offered when allowed by faculty availability and sufficient student interest. Seminar content to be announced in advance of scheduled offerings.

Class description

This course will focus on both the development and presentation of strategic solutions to business problems that have an international emphasis. Teams will be formed to take advantage of students' various skills sets and disciplines. Teams will compete in their anaylses of cases and present before a panel of judges. This course will help students home their analytical and presentation skills,as individuals and in working as part of a team.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

Lecture format only for the first few sessions which will cover strategic models, communciation skills. The remainder of the course will be devoted to the solution and effective presentation of cases under case competition format. Student teams will present their analyses and respond to Q&A under typical case competition guidelines.

Recommended preparation

Prerequisite: Open to all Business School Majors who have completed FIN 350.

Class assignments and grading

Case readings, team presentations, submission of questions for teams when not presenting, keeping a journal.

Students will be graded based on their presentations, quality of questions asked when not presenting, journal.
