Ecosystem-Based Restoration Ecology

Philosophy of restoration, structural components of ecosystem degradation, analysis of restoration projects and methods, and an ecosystem by ecosystem review of how systems are restored. How restoration is done in different ecosystem types; what sources of degradation are common in different systems.

Lecture class with hands-on restoration project.

Recommended preparation

Read materials, listen to lectures, be a good team member.

Class assignments and grading

The main assignment is to restore part of the Union Bay Natural Area.

There will be two tests. The restoration project will be judged by instructor and teaching assistant; student grade for the project will be based on the project but will be adjusted using peer evaluations by team members.
