ENGL 199
Seattle Campus

Interdisciplinary Writing/Natural Science

Expository writing based on material presented in a specific natural science lecture course. Assignments include drafts of papers to be submitted in the specified course, and other pieces of analytical prose. Concurrent registration in the specified course required.

Class description

You can earn a W credit for this class!

Each of the three assigned papers will ask you to take advantage of concepts from Biology 180; in addition, each one will ask you to write in a different genre and for a different audience. You'll also be asked to read some published research in the field of biology. By the end of the course, you'll be better prepared to read published scholarship, use library resources to find research, write for a scientific audience, and assess your own writing.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

I prefer for my students to make discoveries by talking to each other in small groups and then reporting out to the class so that we can all engage with the class' ideas.

Recommended preparation

Class assignments and grading

It's a writing class, so you will be asked to write. Frequently.

The information above is intended to be helpful in choosing courses. Because the instructor may further develop his/her plans for this course, its characteristics are subject to change without notice. In most cases, the official course syllabus will be distributed on the first day of class.
