Advanced Topics in Solid-State Electronics

Lectures or discussions of topics of current interest in the field of solid-state electronics for advanced graduate students having adequate preparation in solid-state theory. Subject matter may vary according to the interests of students and faculty. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.

Class description

Analog-to-digital data converter design and analysis

Student learning goals

understand the fundamentals of data conversion

be able to choose different ADCs for various application

be able to analyze the non-idealities of ADC at system level

be able to implement ADC at transistor level

General method of instruction

projector, hand derivation

Recommended preparation

basic analog circuit design

Class assignments and grading

weekly homework projects

homework 20% midterm exam 15% project 40% final exam 25%
