Graduate Seminar

Weekly seminars on current topics in electrical engineering. More than one section may be offered in a given quarter. Credit/no credit only.

Class description

This discription covers both sections J (graphical reading group) and K (machine translation reading group).

Section J: This is the ongoing advanced reading group seminar on all aspects of statistical graphical model related issues. Special emphasis this (Winter-2004) quarter will be on approximate inference algorithms in graphical models including some of the recent work on loopy propagation, sampling, and the like. We will probably also touch on issues in statistical physics. Other topics will include readings from recent UAI (uncertainty in artificial intelligence) and NIPS (neural information processing systems) conferences.

The meetings will be informal. There are no assignments/problem sets. Only attendance and volunteering to lead for at least one reading group is required. The time/location will be decided so that all can meet. Also, this course will meet starting the 2nd week of the quarter. http://ssli.ee.washington.edu/~bilmes/grg
