Class description

Construction Skills for Theatrical Costuming: Intensive lecture-laboratory in basic practices, techniques, and equipment used in a theatrical costume shop.

This course will familiarize students with clothing construction and sewing techniques used in theatrical costuming.

Student learning goals

The student will learn how to use professional shop equipment, machine and hand sewing techniques, will be expected to complete a garment and keep a notebook of samples. The aim of this class is to elevate the student’s skills to a more marketable level.

General method of instruction

Recommended preparation

It is intended for costume professionals, fiber artists, and design students, and has a prerequisite of basic sewing skills.
