Projects in Acting

Rehearsal and classroom performance of dramatic literature of various periods and styles.

Class description

Winter 2007

The Alexander Technique teaches you how your coordination (the ability to conceive of an idea and carry the idea out as conceived) works and gives you a process to improve your coordination consciously, giving you the ability to improve the quality of what you do-in your daily life and in skilled performance. It is important for class members to know that this work is a psychophysical change process that is very useful to actors and other performers. It is not specifically an acting technique.

Winter Quarter's class will, however, be focused specifically for performers, with class projects designed to be practice in applying the Technique to whatever area of performance you are pursuing. Designers are welcome to take the course and the projects will be geared to their needs. This winter the course is in two halves - a 5 week introduction to Alexander followed by 5 weeks with Judy Shahn.
