Special studies designed to address contemporary and historical concerns in the field of dance.
This course focuses on how to survive, and, ideally, flourish in a performing arts profession by teaching students how to be risk-taking and tactical performing artists. Through self-evaluation and the use of “mock” auditions, students will learn to distinguish their unique voices, and how to identify marketing and networking possibilities to succeed as performers. The course also covers information on contract negotiations, agents and managers, performers’ unions, grant writing, and survival strategies “between gigs.
