Special Studies in Dance

Special studies designed to address contemporary and historical concerns in the field of dance.

Class description

We will engage in improvisational play and study. We will reflect through journal, writing and the representational mapping of Mandala making.

Student learning goals

1) To gain understanding and experience in collaborative process as a tool for developing choreography and increasing physical, emotional, and intellectual depth of creative and performance technique.

2) To increase improvisational performance technique.

3) To gain understanding in partnering technique.

4) To engage in the practice of creating self-defined structure for improvisational play

7) Increase ability to write about movement and processes of exploration

8) Increase intuitive abilities and skill

General method of instruction

Studio Practicum integrating lecture, practice, creative journaling and Mandala making. A Study of Yoga principles, philosophy and technique will ground our study on all levels. We will also engage Western models in pursuit of "embodied knowledge", specifically attuning to the current revelations of Quantum Theory.
