Provides instruction in swing dancing. Includes: East Coast Swing, Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa, and West Coast Swing. Primarily focuses on studio practice. Uses reading, writing, and other assignments to contextualize the history and social significance of the dances.
Class description
This course will offer instruction in swing dancing, an umbrella term for many styles of social dance that evolved with American jazz and swing music dating from the 1920s onward. Specific styles covered in this course will include the Lindy Hop, Charleston, Shag, Balboa, Blues dancing and Solo Jazz. Most of the dancing we do will involve upbeat, fast, and joyous interaction with another person.
