Class description

Alternative Movement Studies: SOMATIC PRACTICES

This course will introduce you to the growing field of Somatics. Somatic Practices study the inter-relational process between awareness, biological function and environment—all three factors being understood as a synergistic whole. These practices emphasize the unity of mind and body as experienced from within through conscious, guided movement and self-awareness. We will learn about the field, and our own bodies by experiencing a variety of somatic practices including The Feldenkrais Method, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Developmental Movement, Body/Mind Centering, Experiential Anatomy, Authentic Movement and Skinner Releasing Technique.
