Ballet Technique II

Advanced-beginning level. .Continued development of all beginning areas. Expansion of ballet vocabulary. Prerequisite: Dance 202.

Class description

This course will cover the Intermediate Ballet Fundamentals. Emphasis will be on barre exercises, turns, and jumps. Combinations, expression, and quality of dance movements will also be stressed. This course will be the foundation for the Advanced Ballet Technique Class.

This course will work to: increase your dance vocabulary; enrich the quality of your dancing; reinforce your basic technique; build strength; expand your expressive range; and enhance your creativity.

Student learning goals

Ability to think analytically, comparatively, and contextually.

Skills in rhythmic, movement, and composition analysis.

Understanding of basic principle of dance teaching methodologies, as well as dance science as applied to technical and aesthetic development.

Awareness of the extent of the student's personal responsibility towards his/her own learning process and social contribution.

Kinesthetic awareness and use of the the body as a mode of understanding and expression.

Risk-taking and expansion of creative and artistic potentials.

General method of instruction

Recommended preparation

Students should have completed an intermediate or higher Ballet class during a previous quarter.

Class assignments and grading

Grades will be assigned according to the student's attitude towards learning, level of expressivity and musicality, participation in class, and aptitude for capturing movements.
