Business Reports and Other Specialized Communications

Covers internal and external, written and oral business reporting. Considers communications strategies within the context of rapidly changing technologies. Students learn to apply primary and secondary research to quarter-long, individual projects resulting in a variety of reports: proposals, progress reports, feasibility studies, business plans, etc. Prerequisite: B CMU 301 or B CMU 302.

Class description

Reporting, both internal and external, written and oral, will make up the largest component of the course. Students will gain experience doing in- depth research on a business topic, practice all the steps of the reporting process, and examine business communication within the context of a rapidly changing environment.

Recommended preparation

A keen desire to polish one's communication skills, both written and oral.

A strong interest in individually researching a business topic in depth.

Class assignments and grading

Students will work individually throughout the quarter on a research project of their choice, resulting in a variety of written and oral reports, including a project proposal, a questionnaire, a progress report, a formal report, and three oral presentations.

Grades are assigned to each written and oral report, and the final grade is based on the cumulative total of points these assignments receive.
