Basic Written Business Communications

Broad analytical approach to written communications as a management tool. Analysis of the psychology, semantics, planning, and principles of effective business writing. Practical application through messages that inform and persuade, grant and refuse; plus short business reports and applications for positions. Cannot be taken for credit if B CMU 302 already taken. Offered: AWSp.

Course Objectives & Structure This course is designed to build your proficiency and power in the following areas: 1. Writing, in letter, resume, report and journal formats 2. Speaking to audiences, on your own and as part of a group 3. Analyzing communications challenges to find workable options, and 4. Self-confidence, through journaling, surveys, coursework and activities

General method of instruction

In-class give-and-take, and “real world” challenges move this course along. The Coursepak and journal are used as workbooks, the text and dictionary as references.
