Class description

We'll conduct experiments that are directly related to work going on in my lab (dendrite development in Drosophila). Most of the experiments will be done in cultured cells, but you'll have a chance to make expression constructs, transfect the cells, treat them with RNAi, pharmacological agents, etc and analyze them using immunostaining/western blotting. We'll also try to do a little bit of fly work -- it'll at least involve some dissection/staining of fly larvae. And if all goes well, we'll have time to make some transgenic flies with the expression constructs you engineer (express them in neurons and see what happens/where the proteins go, etc).
