Survey of Physiology

Human physiology, for nonmajors and health sciences students. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

This course is designed for students going into the medical field (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, optometry, etc). Students just interested in fulfilling their natural world credits would be advised to take Biology 100 which is offered Autumn and Winter Quarter. The course meets 5 days a week for 10 weeks. All 10 systems of the human body are discussed. At the most basic level, the course involves learning the language of physiology and anatomy. The goal of the course is help you learn how to think like a physiologist which means that you will be expected to understand the mechanism involved with each physiological system. You will be asked to solve novel problems. The course involves a large volume of material and requires daily attention both in class and outside of class. I am expecting that you will be spending 45min to an hour review your class notes, reading the book EACH night (except Friday) and spending 2 hours on the weekend summarizing and synthesizing your understanding of the material. Study groups are a BIG plus for this class.
