Class description

Topics to be covered: Surface Modification, Biorecognition AFM, Surface Plasmon Resonance, Advanced XPS, Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy, Advanced ToF-SIMS, Multivariate Analysis, Multi-technique surface analysis and instrument evaluation

Student learning goals

Learn advanced analysis methods for characterizing complex surfaces.

General method of instruction

Lectures and student presentations

Recommended preparation

Prerequisites are BIOEN 492/592 or CHEME 458/558

Class assignments and grading

Reading current surface analysis literature.

Grades will be based on student performance in oral presentations, paper critiques and the final exam. See course website for further details.
