Italian Renaissance Art

Sculpture, painting, and architecture from 1300 to 1600.

Class description

General introduction to critical themes and figures in Italian Renaissance art. Some themes highlighted: art, religion, and the transformation of the religious image; the "rise of the artist;" visual narrative; the revival of the antique; the rise of art theory; the body and representation.
