Hands-on woodworking and furniture production. Includes development of technique and collaboration with fabrication shops and design professionals. Uses design drawing, model building, and full-scale construction prototypes as tools of communication. End-of-term exhibit places work on public view.
Class description
Beginning, intermediate, and advanced methods of relief printmaking to include woodblock, linoleum, and stencil printing. Block carving, care and use of tools, black and white and multicolor printing using an etching press and hand printing methods, monotype, collage drawing issues. Historical overview with an emphasis on contemporary developments. Will cover image development and other related technical concepts.

General method of instruction
Seminar style discussions, group critiques, individual critiques, demonstrations and hands on experience.
Recommended preparation
Drawing. Related printmaking experience not necessary.
Class assignments and grading
Black & white and multicolor woodblock/relief prints of students' own design.
Quality of portfolio, progress, technical ability and creative efforts.
