Portrait Painting

Prerequisite: ART 257; ART 265.

Class Description

Approaches to Traditional & Contemporary Portrait Painting

In addition to understanding the structure of the human figure, there will be specific assignments in color and composition that deal specifically with portraiture. There will be a considerable emphasis on color and composition.

Work will be executed from life. There will be different models for each assignments.

Recommended preparation

Basic painting courses.

Class Assignments and Grading

There will be outside assignments dealing with self-portraiture.

A final individual critique where all assignments are evaluated by the professor.
