Beginning Sculpture -- Casting

Fundamentals of composition in the round and relief with an emphasis on non-metal casting.

Class description

This course will focus on the fundamentals of modeling in clay and moldmaking in plaster and rubber. Students will sculpt directly from a variety of subjects, including the live model, make plaster and rubber molds, and then cast the their their work in plaster.

General method of instruction

Classes are studios, with emphasis on direct modeling and application of materials.

Recommended preparation

Life drawing and/or painting classes very helpful. Desire to learn both contemporary and traditional methods of observation and 3D representation
