Methods for Partial Differential Equations

See 401. Applications of partial differential equations; linear and quasilinear first order equations, characteristics, shocks; classification of linear second order equations; basic solution techniques for parabolic, elliptic, and hyperbolic equations; Green’s functions and integral transform methods. Prerequisite: AMATH 402.

Class description

Applications of partial differential equations; basic solution techniques for second order parabolic, elliptic, and hyperbolic equations (Separation of variables, Fourier and eigenfunction methods, Sturm-Liouville problems); classification of linear second order equations; hyperbolic first order equations, characteristics; Green's functions and integral methods.
