Independent Fieldwork

Independent fieldwork in community agencies, apprenticeships, internships, as approved for College of Arts and Sciences credit. Faculty sponsor and internship supervisor are required. Credit/no credit only. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

Students will continue their community-based learning projects for a total of 40 hours.

Student learning goals

Be able to reflect deeply on issues of social justice.

Understand the challenges which underserved populations face.

Be able to link theory to practice.

Be familiar with the operation of a non-profit organization.

General method of instruction

40 hours of community service is required. Students must keep a weekly reflection journal and worksite log.

Recommended preparation

Must have completed BIS 496 or have had previous community-based learning experience.

Class assignments and grading

40 hours of independent fieldwork Weekly reflection journal Worksite Log

Completion of service hours and submission of reflection journal and worksite log.
