Class description

Ghosts in Contemporary Thought

In this course, we will examine the strange phenomenon of the figures of ghosts in contemporary philosophy, literature, trauma studies, psychoanalysis, sociology, and cultural studies. In a period governed by technology, it is perhaps surprising that ghosts should appear so frequently. We will attempt to account for this presence of the uncanny by examining the representation of ghosts and by thinking together about the different types of cultural work produced at haunted sites.
