Performance, Identity, Community, and Everyday Life

Examines performance in everyday life, dance, theater, community-based arts practices, and/or new media from a variety of perspectives. Considers how performances act as sites for the revisioning of identity, community, and cross-cultural exchange.

Class description

We will start by asking and answering, "What is performance?" This question will prompt discussion about the actual definition and cultural use of the term and the nature of performance in our culture and others.

***** For UTOPIA IN PERFORMANCE ***** In this class, we will define what utopia is and discuss how certain performances, focusing on theatre, film and music, suggest utopia or utopic experiences.

We collaborate, discuss and share information on a daily basis. All collaborations are graded on an individual basis as well as how the group "performs"/functions.
