Application of the new conduct code

With the University’s new Student Conduct Code in place starting Aug. 18, 2017, there will be some overlap between former versions of the code and the new code.

Students and other individuals involved in conduct proceedings are provided with specific information regarding the application of the new code or former versions of the code. Following is a brief summary of the timelines for when the new code will apply in conduct proceedings.

Current conduct proceedings

Conduct proceedings that were initiated prior to Aug. 18, 2017, will be completed under the Student Conduct Code in effect when the respondent received notice that the conduct proceeding was initiated. For a copy of the prior version of the Student Conduct Code, please contact your campus conduct office.

Conduct proceedings for alleged misconduct before Aug. 18, 2017

For conduct proceedings initiated on or after Aug. 18, 2017, but where alleged misconduct occurred prior to that date, the following provisions of the Student Conduct Code that was in effect at the time alleged misconduct will apply:

  • Jurisdiction
  • Standards of conduct
  • Prohibited conduct
  • Disciplinary sanctions

Otherwise, all other provisions of the new code under Chapter 209 and Chapter 210 – Student Governance and Policies — will be in effect.

Conduct proceedings for alleged misconduct on or after Aug. 18, 2017

All provisions of the new Student Conduct Code under Chapter 209 and Chapter 210 – Student Governance and Policies — apply in conduct proceedings for alleged misconduct that occurs on or after Aug. 18, 2017.
