About the ProjectThe UW Student Learning Objectives System is a project for the UW Decennial Accreditation, developed jointly by the Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Planning and UW Computing & Communications. Please contact the UW Office of Educational Assessment if you have any questions or comments. AvailabilityAs of January 2007, the UW SLO system is discontinued, and no longer available. AdaptabilityThe UW SLO System has been designed for the undergraduate instructional environment of the University of Washington, and therefore has been built to accommodate the needs of over 150 departments in more than a dozen schools and colleges, each having the potential for distinctive needs. The generality built into the system suggests that it will be adaptable to the requirements of other universities as well as serving the needs of organizations that wish to track learning objectives outside the formal requirements of academic instruction. AssistanceOne of the primary challenges in adopting the UW SLO System appears to be that of importing existing course and student information. As with any transfer of data between database systems, the amount of work depends a great deal on the format and quality of the existing data, the export capabilities of the current database(s), and the availability of data management expertise to facilitate the migration of data to the new system. The developers of the SLO System at the University of Washington are not able to assist every interested institution with populating the system at their site, but for a few early adopters, as part of the University's assessment of the system, the developers are willing to provide limited assistance as part of an overall arrangement to adopt and test the UW SLO System in new environments. FundingThe University of Washington has developed the UW SLO System over a period of 2 years. To make the system available to other universities and colleges, to assist in its implementation, and to enhance and improve it, additional funding will be required. This funding may come from a number of sources, including:
