IMPORTANT NOTICE: The UW Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is terminating as of Sept. 19, 2014 and will not be offered to students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents after that date. Read this information regarding insurance options and how to prevent coverage gaps.
LifeWise Assurance is sending plan termination letters during August, 2014 to current SHIP enrollees who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This letter is very important. It is proof that you have involuntarily lost coverage, and enables you to enroll in the Washington Health Benefit Exchange Plans or other state or federal insurance marketplace plans effective immediately, before the next open enrollment period begins. Please contact LIfeWise Assusurance as soon as possible if you have not received your letter. The UW Student Insurance Office does not have copies and cannot issue this letter on behalf of LifeWise, so please contact LifeWise directly for quick service. CLICK HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON ENROLLING IN THE EXCHANGE ONCE YOU RECEIVE YOUR TERMINATION LETTER.
International students are still required to buy UW insurance. A new plan (ISHIP) tailored to international student needs has replaced SHIP.
